Stress Management
Harmony in schools

Staff and pupils from two special schools have undertaken a four-week Tai Chi course in order to learn the Chinese art of mind and body relaxation.

Tai Chi is practised worldwide and is fast becoming one of the most popular ways of combating stress and improving well being. The benefits of Tai Chi include improved circulation, co-ordination and posture. The practice of Tai Chi not only benefits the body, but also the mind. The mind is so absorbed by the different movements that day-to-day worries are left behind. This results in a mental sharpness and self-confidence as the pupil becomes more proficient. Tai Chi can be of enormous benefit to school children, and those with special needs. Practice is simple as no special equipment is required; the movements are accessible to all regardless of age, sex or physical ability.

Once staff and pupils have learnt the adapted Tai Chi form, they hope to continue performing Tai Chi sessions at lunchtimes to create a calm atmosphere throughout the school.
