Smoking Prevention In Schools

Primary School
· studies have recorded up to 450 children start smoking every day in Britain

· Salford and Trafford Healthy Schools Team have developed a new smoking prevention resource for Key Stage 2 called (Anti Smoking Programme.) ASP 2

· each pack contains:
o literacy and numeracy activities, colour coded to relevant National Curriculum areas
o activities range from puppet making, and using the puppets to perform role plays on an anti smoking theme, to calculating how much it costs to smoke, and on what you could have spent the equivalent money
o guidelines for writing a no-smoking policy


Smoking Cessation Service
· Salford and Trafford Smoking Cessation Service operates mainly through Practice Nurses in local GP practices. However, there are also several Specialist Advisers who can run a smoking cessation group for young people, staff or parents

Alcohol Education
· Portman Group have produced a resource on Alcohol Education and Primary Schools, which links activities to the National Curriculum. If you would like more information about this resource and other relevant resources, contact the Portman Group website at www.portman-group.org.uk


Drug Education
· programmes of work in PSHE with emphasis on Drug Education and SRE for all Key Stages are being developed. These planned programmes will have lesson plans, activities and information about up to date and relevant resources. The Key Stage One pack will be available in January. The pack will be used as a basis for teacher training in the Spring Term
